Welcome to Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in America. If you are new to the Altoona area or just visiting, we invite you to our services.
Our church was founded in 1915 by immigrants from Eastern Europe areas of Russia, Galicia, Vienna, Austria, and other Slavic areas. Most of the immigrants settled in this area to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad. To be able to worship in their own way and in their own language, they traveled the area collecting money to purchase the church and church property located at 2027-2029 13th Avenue in Altoona. These hardworking individuals worked as laborers during the day and worked to build a church in their precious off time. To their memory we pray at each service.
Today, our little church is made up of people of all backgrounds, ages, and occupations. While the church is small in number, it is big in heart. All services are in English with congregational singing. We have an abbreviated Liturgical cycle because our priest serves two parishes. We have a very hard working church council that helps to keep us moving forward.
We are proud that our church worships together, socializes together with coffee hours and church events, and gives back to the church and the community. Each year we set a new goal for ourselves and put our hearts and souls into it.
If you are looking for a warm and loving Orthodox community, free of internal politics and personality struggles, look no further than us. And if you have not found a way to worship Jesus Christ, we invite you to join us and learn more about the TRUE church. Again, welcome, check our service times and dates, we look forward to meeting you.
Our parish is maintained by "Free Will Offerings". God has blessed us with the ability to make improvements, pay our "wordly bills", and grow the parish simply by donations. We maintain this site with donations from people like yourself. If you would like to donate to the parish you may send in care of the address supplied in the "Contacts" section of this site, titled Mailing Address. More importantly, COME WORSHIP & VISIT with us!! Please keep us in your prayers as we you! God Bless!
